The Columbia War Hospital was established by Columbia University in March 1917 in anticipation of U.S. entry into World War I and opened in May of that year. It was transferred to the control of the U.S. Army in July 1917 and renamed General Hospital No. 1. The hospital was located in the northern part of the Bronx, N.Y. It closed on Oct. 15, 1919.
